Best Leather Caps for Men: Baseball, Driver and Biker Styles
Top Guru Jackets
A leather cap does the same job as a cotton one, but it lasts much longer, keeps its shape, handles light rain and wind better, and gets softer and darker with wear. This guide covers the main types of leather caps for men, which leather to choose, how a cap should fit, how to wear one with a leather jacket and how to look after it.
All our leather caps are made to order in real leather. Most cost about $100 to $105; see each product page for today's price.
Types of Leather Caps for Men
Leather Baseball Cap
The most popular style: a six-panel crown, a curved peak and an adjustable strap at the back. A leather baseball cap works with jeans, a T-shirt and sneakers, and also with a leather or suede jacket for a smarter casual look. Black and brown are the easiest colours to wear; red and blue make more of a statement.

Driver Cap and Flat Cap
A driver cap is a low, rounded cap with a short, stiff peak, close to the classic flat cap. In leather it looks neat and a little vintage, and it suits a blazer, a knit or an overcoat better than a baseball cap does. See our Men's Black Driver Leather Cap.
Newsboy Cap
The newsboy cap has a fuller, softer crown made of several panels, often with a button on top. It is a little more relaxed than a flat cap and works well in autumn and winter with knitwear and a leather jacket.
Biker Cap
The biker cap has a flat, structured top and a short shiny peak, the style Marlon Brando wore in The Wild One (1953). It goes best with a black biker jacket, jeans and boots. Our Black Stylish Men's Leather Caps suit this look.
Aviator Cap
A close-fitting cap with ear flaps and a chin strap, based on early pilots' leather helmets. It is mainly a cold-weather choice, often with a shearling or fleece lining.
Western Leather Cap
A cap with a rugged, Western finish, such as stitched panels or tooled details. It pairs well with denim, flannel shirts and suede or brown leather jackets. See our Men's Brown Western Leather Cap.
Suede Cap
Suede has a soft, brushed surface and a more relaxed look than smooth leather. It is best kept for dry days, since water can mark it. See our Men's Handmade Suede Leather Cap.
Prefer a hat with a full brim? We also make leather cowboy hats, and our history of leather hats and caps explains where each style comes from.
Which Leather Is Best for a Cap?
- Lambskin: the softest and lightest. Comfortable from the first day, but marks more easily.
- Sheepskin: soft and a little sturdier than lambskin. A good everyday choice.
- Cowhide: thicker and tougher. It holds a stiff shape well and lasts the longest, but takes longer to soften.
- Suede: brushed and casual. Treat it with a suede protector before wearing.
Avoid caps sold only as "PU" or "vegan leather" if you want one that lasts; they are cheaper but tend to crack and peel within a few years. Read how to tell real leather from fake before you buy.
How to Choose the Right Leather Cap
Fit and Comfort
A cap should sit level just above your eyebrows and ears without leaving a red line on your forehead. Leather has little stretch at first and moulds to your head over a few weeks, so a fit that is snug but not tight is right. Adjustable straps help if you sit between sizes.
How to Measure Your Head
Wrap a soft tape measure around your head about 1 cm (half an inch) above your eyebrows and ears, where the cap will sit. Note the measurement in centimetres or inches and send it with a custom order if you want a made-to-measure cap.
Colour
- Black: matches almost everything, including black and brown jackets.
- Brown or tan: warmer and more vintage; good with denim and suede.
- Bold colours (red, blue): best with plain outfits so the cap stands out.
Season
For summer, choose thinner lambskin or sheepskin and a breathable lining. For winter, choose a lined cap or an aviator style with ear flaps.
Hats That Go With Leather Jackets
- Biker jacket: a black leather baseball cap or a biker cap, with jeans and boots.
- Bomber or flight jacket: a leather baseball cap or an aviator cap in winter.
- Suede or trucker jacket: a brown or suede cap, or a Western cap.
- Leather blazer or coat: a driver or newsboy cap for a smarter look.
Keep the cap and the jacket in the same colour family, or wear a black cap with a brown jacket, which works well. A brown cap with a black jacket is harder to pull off. Browse our men's biker jackets to complete the look.
How to Care for a Leather Cap
- Cleaning: wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Never put a leather cap in the washing machine.
- Sweat: wipe the inside band after hot days, and let the cap air out before storing it.
- Conditioning: use a leather conditioner every few months to stop the leather drying and cracking. Don't condition suede; brush it instead.
- Rain: if it gets wet, let it dry naturally at room temperature, away from heaters and hair dryers.
- Storage: keep it in a cool, dry place out of direct sun, stuffed with tissue paper to hold its shape.
For more detail, see our leather cleaning guide; the same steps work for caps. You can also learn more about leather care at Genuine Leather Finds.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are leather caps worth it?
If you wear a cap often, yes. A real leather cap keeps its shape and can last many years with basic care, while a cotton cap fades and loses shape much sooner.
Do leather caps get hot in summer?
Leather breathes better than plastic-based materials, but it is warmer than cotton. Choose thin lambskin or sheepskin with a breathable lining for summer.
Can you wash a leather cap?
No. Washing machines and soaking damage leather. Wipe it with a damp cloth and condition it instead.
What hat goes with a leather jacket?
A leather baseball cap or biker cap suits a biker jacket, a driver or newsboy cap suits a blazer or coat, and a suede or Western cap suits a suede jacket.
Does a leather cap stretch?
A little. It moulds to your head over the first few weeks, so choose a snug fit rather than a loose one.
Can I order a custom leather cap?
Yes. Every cap is made to order, and you can ask for a custom size, colour, leather type or lining. Send us the product link and the changes you want.
